HOW TO TIE A TIE

Learn how to tie a tie with these simple instructions.

Windsor Knot (also called Double Windsor Knot)

The Double Windsor Knot takes its name from the double wrap that is part of its construction. Business leaders seem to favor this knot, along with foreign royalty. Use the Double Windsor for thin materials such as silk, and with wider ties.

BOW TIE

1. Situate the tie so that the wide end "A" is longer than the narrow end "B" and cross "A" over "B".

2. Bring "A" up through loop between collar and tie; then back down.

3. Pull "A" underneath "B" and to the left, and back through the loop again.

4. Bring "A" across the front from left to right.

5. Pull "A" up through the loop again.

6. Bring "A" down through the knot in front.

7. Using both hands, tighten the knot and draw up to collar.

  • When untying a tie never just pull the narrow end out. Simply follow the directions in reverse.
